El filme de Jonás Trueba se asoma a la vida de un grupo de adolescentes a los que acompaña y con los que recrea diversas situaciones de la realidad que les rodea. La cinta culmina un proceso de más de cinco años de rodaje condensados en 220 minutos que el autor estructura en tres partes, invitando al espectador a ser parte de la experiencia global.

Pregunta: La película tiene un prólogo y un final que tienen que ver con el momento presente, y en concreto con un elemento característico de la "era COVID": las videollamadas en grupo... ¿cómo resignifica la pandemia una película que, en ese momento, aún estaba haciéndose?: De alguna forma, la pandemia vino a concluir la película. Creo que es algo especialmente significativo para esta generación de jóvenes en particular, los que se han hecho mayores de edad junto en estos años. Cuando estalló todo, pasado mi propio shock volví a pensar mucho en ellos, y pensé en terminar la película y sacarla ahora, en este tiempo un poco como homenaje, como gesto a esta generación y a estos chavales que ya eran mis amigos. Teniendo en cuenta , además, que con la pandemia se está hablando de los jóvenes todo el rato en un sentido muy negativo. Sentía que, como mínimo, les debía la película"... "... Se trataba de comprender que la cámara es una oportunidad para ser mejores, y esa es la tesis fundamental de la película: que la cámara -y la película- es una oportunidad para mostrar lo mejor de cada uno, que es lo que tendría que ser en general el cine...".
